Hospice Criteria
If you or someone you know has a life-limiting illness, hospice care may be an option to consider. Hospice care is not limited to only those with a cancer diagnosis; it is available for patients with any terminal illness who are no longer receiving curative treatment.
There are several criteria for a hospice admission, including:
- Two physicians (patient’s primary physician and hospice medical director) have agreed that hospice care is appropriate and the patient has a predicted life expectancy of six months or less.
- The patient and family want hospice care.
- The patient and family understand that the patient is no longer being treated for a cure.
