What Sets Us Apart

There are many distinctions that set Hospice Family Care apart from the other hospice providers in the area.  Following is a brief list highlighting some of those differences:

  • HFC only uses RN case managers for patient care.  The Alabama State Board of Nursing states that LPNs cannot perform patient status assessments, and we feel that when caring for the terminally-ill, conditions can change so rapidly that each visit is an assessment.  By using only RNs, HFC ensures strict adherence to compliance standards and is more able to expedite any necessary changes to the care plan.

  • Rapid response time is critical when working with hospice patients.  In 1979, Hospice Family Care chose to focus on the local community and today, still maintains its same geographic coverage area -- Madison County.  This is significant because in the event of an emergency, our staff member(s) can respond quickly and will never have very far to travel in order to reach you, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.

  • We have two local physicians serving as Medical Directors for Hospice Family Care.  The physicians maintain regular office hours at HFC and attend weekly meetings with the clinical staff to assess the condition of each of our patients and their families.  Some of the other hospice providers use non-local Medical Directors or contract with a local physician that may have minimal involvement with the hospice team.  Our Medical Directors are directly involved in the care of our patients and are always available to our hospice team.

  • HFC is a not-for-profit organization.  This allows us to provide more comprehensive ancillary therapies (when medically indicated), such as pet therapy, massage therapy, and music and art therapy.  Also, by not having to pay an "owner," or group of stockholders, more money goes directly into patient care and training of the staff members.  We do not cut corners to protect a "profit margin."
